This is my first blog destined to give an overview of my experience with different Apps I have downloaded for my iPhone 3Gs.
I downloaded a couple of days ago the Google Wave app for my iPhone 3Gs. I did this of course after I got my Google Wave account.
Now, the app does offer you the opportunity to do most of the stuff you would do on your browser. And since I am not a pro “surfer” yet, I will not comment on the functionalities. However, there are some look and feel as well as performance issues I am not happy with.
First of all, once you open the app the first thing you see id the “W” logo on a blue screen which switches quickly to a white screen showing the word ” loading…” in the typical Google colors.
Now, let’s be honest this is not the best I have seen from Google! They could work on the style a bit more and they could definitely work on the performance!
I had to wait around 30 seconds for the app to load using 3G. If you use WLAN then you need around half of the time, which is still slow. Once the app signed me in and loaded the main page, things looked a lot better. The available functionalities like opening an existing wave, creating a new one or managing your contacts were pretty easy to understand. The only problem I found again has to do with performance, since sometimes no matter how long or how often you tap on one of the buttons, nothing happens!
Actually, to be honest due to the performance issues I did not feel like to continue testing the app until it has reached a further level of maturity. In the meantime I will continue gaining experience with Google Wave using Google Chrome as browser.
Google Wave appears to be promising. The app however at this time still has room for improvement!
