Sometimes it’s worth to check your spam filter. Now I know that it might be all my fault on 4th November in case McCain will win the American presidential election.

This is one of the most awesome things I’ve ever seen online. At this website you can customize this election-day video to use whatever name you want.

As most probably above link will not work anymore after the presidential election I converted the video (customized by an anonymous spammer to my first and last name) and uploaded it for documentation to my youtube.com account.

I’m technically savvy enough to know that this is a fill-in-the-blank video, generated by a robotic process. But less technical people might not know that and it looks to them like somebody had invaded their personal records somehow. It might feel to them like an invasion of privacy, especially as the source of the video might be an unknown person — as it was for me.

Worse for Obama, as it can make the receiver want to vote for McCain.

The sponsor of the technology is moveon.org which claim on their webpage not to be sponsored by Obama’s campaign:

Paid for by MoveOn.org Political Action, http://pol.moveon.org/. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.

MoveOn.org Civic Action is a 501(c)(4) organization which primarily focuses on nonpartisan education and advocacy on important national issues. MoveOn.org Political Action is a federal political committee which primarily helps members elect candidates who reflect our values through a variety of activities aimed at influencing the outcome of the next election. MoveOn.org Political Action and MoveOn.org Civic Action are separate organizations.

I’m now waiting for Marcianne Walsh to apologize, even tough I’m living in Europe and I don’t have the right to vote any of the candidates, why does she shout me down? ;-)

Overall I’m confused about the target audience for this “funny” video. It adresses both McCain and Obama, in this sense it might be a good initiative, as valid for every democratic system: the system only works if majority of potential voters are attending the election, like Homer Simpson:

Shift Happens!

This is a UK version from Ray Fleming from Microsoft of a presentation which has a strong message for educational audiences. It works as an opener for conferences or events where the future of education and learning is under discussion, or where you want to provoke a discussion about learning and times changing (with daily increased pace).

Karl Fisch, of Arapahoe High School in the US, conceived and created the first version of this presentation for a staff development day - and published it on the web. Scott McLeod modified it, to make it more relevant to a wider context. Ray Fleming, of Microsoft, modified it to reflect a UK context. You can find the whole history and translation of this presentation on http://shifthappens.wikispaces.com/
